The Fresh Start

It's September 2013, I am a mummy to 1 little girl, settled and living in Essex. I design freelance for fashion companies, and have had a few months work this year, but presently experiencing a quiet phase.  I have been run down for a few weeks,  suffering a cold and general tiredness and low mood. It is no surprise then that my skin is terrible, and the dreaded acne rosacea is all over my face. my diet regime is pretty slack and I've not been to the gym for months. I know full well that all of these things also lead to a general lowering of mood, and  limit my ability to function and enjoy life. Its time NOW for a restart. the cold is passing, its September, a time of new beginnings.

In the past I would have turned to my trusty Sher skincare products, and regime to give me a fresh start. but now they are gone, and I am alone in a sea of advise and information about how to treat this condition.

I have a few cornerstones to base my plan on, and beyond that, I hope to find the answers through diet and herbs. In my experience, the best approach is to introduce 1 new idea at a time, in order to determine its effect.

today is Day1.

Week 3 - Colon Clense

W/C 13 April 2015 When Sue Guild spoke to me last week about supporting gut health, she also mentioned a condition called 'leaky gut' I did some digging about on the internet, and found out more. While I don't suffer from many of the conditions that are characteristic of leaky gut, or Candida, Rosacea is cited as a possible sign of infection. Candida is a naturally occurring yeast, that resides in the gut. If it overgrows and is fed with sugars and yeasts, it can cause problems, and lead to leaky gut syndrome, where it attacks the gut lining, and causes toxins to leak into the bloodstream. The toxins have to go somewhere - and via the skin is not unheard of, others suffer with eczema and Psoriasis. I got a book about it, called "The Candida Diet Solution", by Sandra Boehner. It arrived while we were away visiting family, and having a wonderful sunny weekend with all the kids. As soon as we had unpacked the car I literally devoured the book, and read with gr...

Pink Clay

Our current lock down situation here in the UK is playing havoc with my skin. The light treatments I was having, stopped back in October, and now my skin is really starting to flare up.  Taking things into my own hands is a nice Idea, however, my track record for sticking to ‘regime’beyond a quick face wash and teeth clean is admittedly poor.  I honestly can’t be bothered, spending ages on a beauty regime just seems like such a waste of time. Trouble is, now I kind of have a very good reason to spend some time on myself.  Self care, self compassion, self love, have all been low on my list in the past. I’m beginning to realise how important they all are for mental health and overall wellbeing, which in turn makes me a nicer person to be around.  The penny is dropping. So I slapped on a mask this evening.  There I am - trying to look gorgeous with goop on my face.  It’s an Rose Formula Antioxidant Mask from Neal’s Yard Remedy. Designed to produce a fresher an...

Time passes

Where to start? Time to check in with an update on my progress in the last 4 months. The journey I started in April 2015 with the candida diet is on going. It has its ups and downs, and I really struggle to stay sugar free. I have had a tough time over the summer, what with holidays, feeding a family, and working part time, the planning and cooking of special food can be a challenge sometimes. There are days when I really get upset with it all and just want to give up and run away. I think that's pretty normal. One element that helps me to keep going is a monthly Skype chat with Sandra Boehner , which I've had going on since June. My handwritten food journal has moved onto an app called My symptoms, which I find brilliant to use, I can chart all my food, symptoms, add my own recipes, and add more details as I wish. My skincare regime has been easy to maintain, and I have kept regular appointments with Sue, for light treatment. The flushing has really lessened, which is a...
