Pink Clay

Our current lock down situation here in the UK is playing havoc with my skin. The light treatments I was having, stopped back in October, and now my skin is really starting to flare up.  Taking things into my own hands is a nice Idea, however, my track record for sticking to ‘regime’beyond a quick face wash and teeth clean is admittedly poor.  I honestly can’t be bothered, spending ages on a beauty regime just seems like such a waste of time. Trouble is, now I kind of have a very good reason to spend some time on myself.  Self care, self compassion, self love, have all been low on my list in the past. I’m beginning to realise how important they all are for mental health and overall wellbeing, which in turn makes me a nicer person to be around.  The penny is dropping. So I slapped on a mask this evening.  There I am - trying to look gorgeous with goop on my face.  It’s an Rose Formula Antioxidant Mask from Neal’s Yard Remedy. Designed to produce a fresher an...

Starting from Scratch

Well, not quite from Scratch, but since my economic situation has stopped my regular light treatment, and as my skin gradually is reverting back to more frequent flare ups and redness, I want to take it on, and find some sustainable lifestyle remedies. BASICS I can easily bring in a few healthy basics.. things I know would help but am not doing.. DIET 1. 2 litres of water a day 2. quit dairy 3. quit sugar 4. quit caffeine LIFESTYLE 1. daily meditation 2. keep fit That's my goal this week. Sounds like a lot. All this coupled with some homeschooling, which I have never done before. SO - thats a lot of change in one week. maybe I'll stick to doing my best and keeping a food diary to see where I can make changes. here goes.

About that time I said I could never be Vegan..

I have been revisiting some of my blog pages, just to remind myself what I was on about back then. I commented In September 2013 that I would never be vegan... and until recently I stood that ground quite firmly, however, now I am vegan. whatdyaknow eh? I have actually come full circle in all my crazy fad diet attempts to clear my skin. I'm leaning back in to Alkaline, plant based eating, without all the faf of obsessing about gluten, and sugar. I just read a book, called How Not to Die, which you can find here and it really convinced me. Maybe I got 'converted'. Wait - oh - thats what I always do! I read a book or an article and it sends me off in a fad diet somewhere. Each time I enthuse to my family about my new amazing diet thats going to cure my skin I can almost hear their eyes rolling in their sockets 'here she goes again' style. Truth is I have always been diet obsessed. I was anorexic at 18, and just wanted to be t,hin because I thought it woul...

Now is the Time

4 Years!!! yup, that is how long has passed. well 3 years 10 months and 26 days if you want to be precise, but regardless, thats a long old time. You might be thinking - "well maybe she's dealt with her skin and moved on" Nope. I'm still dealing with it. One of the reasons I've been missing is because, I was actually thinking 'how can I have a blog about Rosacea acne and what helps it, if I'm not happy with my skin and don't feel like I have a handle on it...' Like I am a failure or something... I've gone through some big personal changes in the last 2 years. Something of a transformation, and I have come to realise that I am just a big old scaredy cat in life. REALLY! ... It's probable that most people think I am this aloof and 'got it together' kind of person, and actually I'm just pretending, and inside I'm so scared someone will find out, and so I don't share my life with people, and in the process I lock ...

Skin Regime update

I thought I would make a dedicated update on my skin regime.  I last posted about it in 2013, ages ago. The methods and products I used back then hadn't really changed until April this year, when I started seeing Sue Guild, at Advanced skin clinic . Sue started me using Rosacure products from Skin Med. So my regime was much simplified by her products. Something like this: CLEANSE - remove make-up, with Avene Micellar lotion. This is a relic of my old routine, but it clears my skin of make up. MASK - I do this once a week. Dermaquest Derma Clear Mask. I leave it on for a maximum of 5 minutes, and it really stings, because it contains Salicylic acid, which works on the acne spots. It makes my skin a bit dry, but clears the spots. I just need to make sure I keep my skin hydrated after using it. I've only added this in recently, since my skin has become stronger following the light treatments I have had. WASH - Rosacure Gentle Cleansing Gel. This is a simple face was...

Eating Out

What to do when you eat out? Its a topic covered by most food writers, especially those with restrictive diets. How does one navigate a tempting food and drink menu and make good choices? This weekend has been a food challenge, after I have managed to turn things around and get back on track, the last thing I want is for a couple of meals out to stop my progress. Friday night was Date Night with MrV. I love going out together, something we don't do enough. This week I chose a recommended Chinese restaurant. Luckily Rice being the main carbohydrate means avoiding Wheat is easy (admittedly - white rice - but its better than wheat) We started with drinks, so I indulged and had a Kir royale, it was waaaay too sweet, and felt very bad., but I drank it nonetheless. We ate ribs and dumplings to start. Main course was Chicken crockpot, with garlic and basil (I figured this would be a nice anti fungal boost) Then seafood with broccoli, and Lotus root with Asparagus on the side. Pla...

Time passes

Where to start? Time to check in with an update on my progress in the last 4 months. The journey I started in April 2015 with the candida diet is on going. It has its ups and downs, and I really struggle to stay sugar free. I have had a tough time over the summer, what with holidays, feeding a family, and working part time, the planning and cooking of special food can be a challenge sometimes. There are days when I really get upset with it all and just want to give up and run away. I think that's pretty normal. One element that helps me to keep going is a monthly Skype chat with Sandra Boehner , which I've had going on since June. My handwritten food journal has moved onto an app called My symptoms, which I find brilliant to use, I can chart all my food, symptoms, add my own recipes, and add more details as I wish. My skincare regime has been easy to maintain, and I have kept regular appointments with Sue, for light treatment. The flushing has really lessened, which is a...
